Lovely new book from Vicarage Park CE Primary

I wonder why we go to sleep? And why the sea is very deep? And why the clouds are sometimes grey And where the moon goes through the day? I wonder how electricity is made? And why rainbows fade? And why there are waves on the sea? And why there is a sting on a bee? I wonder why it has to rain? And what it is like to live in Spain? And what it is like to live in Space? And why an elephant has a trunk on his face? I wonder why we have ten toes ? And why and where the wind blows? And what it is like to be the Queen? And why the leaves on trees are green? I wonder what’s behind the door? My Mum had a baby, will she have more? And how do they make Lego bricks? And how do magicians perform their tricks? I wonder why the sky is blue? And what my sister is getting up to? And what it will be like when I am dead? And what the dinosaurs said? I wonder how to be a nurse? And how Mrs Burns can rhyme in verse? And why some planets have rings? I wonder about a lot of things. Thank you Caldew Lea for an amazing day. The children wrote riddles and rhymes and kennings and action poems. The teachers wrote a poem too at the meeting after school.
I hope to post some of the finished work on my blog soon. You made me feel welcome and special, thank you. These smiles sum up the day for me at Vicarage Park CE School in Kendal. The Y6 got stuck straight in to the Introduction and shared with me some of their favourite poems and poets. I was pleased to hear that many of the children write poetry at home for pleasure. After a warm up collaboration in table groups, we moved onto the main event. Writing poems on the theme of mountains; we had poems about the colours of mountains, climbing mountains and imagining what it is to be a mountain. What if they could speak? What would they say?
We rounded off the day with a performance for parents and the rest of KS2. A lovely day, feeling blessed to have such a rewarding job. |
